GLOBAL ratings agency Moody’s Ratings has unveiled a blockchain-powered credit analysis platform, marking a significant shift in how financial risk is assessed within the rapidly evolving digital economy.

The new system, known as the Token Integration Engine, enables the delivery of structured credit insights directly on blockchain infrastructure, positioning Moody’s as the first major rating agency to embed its analytics within decentralised financial networks.

The platform operates across multiple blockchains and is designed to collect, process and distribute credit data in real time. As part of its initial rollout, Moody’s is running a node on the Canton Network, a decentralised infrastructure tailored for institutional finance with a strong emphasis on privacy and regulatory compliance.

Speaking on the development, Fabian Astic, Global Head of Digital Economy at Moody’s, noted that the growth of digital financial systems is increasing—not reducing—the need for trusted, independent credit assessments.

The Token Integration Engine effectively bridges traditional financial analysis with blockchain-based ecosystems, enabling issuers and market participants to access reliable credit data within decentralised workflows while maintaining governance and compliance standards.

Industry analysts say the move could significantly reshape banking operations, particularly as financial institutions deepen their exposure to digital assets and tokenised financial instruments.

For banks, the introduction of blockchain-native credit analytics presents both opportunities and competitive pressures.

First, it enhances risk assessment capabilities. By integrating real-time credit insights directly into blockchain transactions, banks can make faster and more informed lending and investment decisions, particularly in digital asset markets where transparency has historically been limited.

Second, the platform could improve operational efficiency. Automated data-sharing across decentralised systems reduces reliance on manual reconciliation processes, lowering costs and minimising errors in credit evaluation and reporting.

Third, it introduces a new layer of transparency. With verifiable and tamper-resistant data on blockchain networks, banks may face increased scrutiny but also gain stronger confidence in counterparty risk assessments.

However, the development also poses strategic challenges. Banks that are slow to adopt blockchain-integrated systems risk falling behind fintech competitors and digital-native financial platforms that are already leveraging decentralised finance (DeFi) infrastructure.

There are also regulatory considerations. While the Canton Network is designed with compliance in mind, banks will need to align adoption with evolving regulatory frameworks governing digital assets, data privacy, and cross-border transactions.

Furthermore, the shift could accelerate the tokenisation of traditional financial instruments such as bonds and loans, requiring banks to rethink legacy systems and invest in new technological capabilities.

Yuval Rooz, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Asset and co-founder of the Canton Network, said the integration allows users to access credit insights directly within blockchain-based financial workflows, improving decision-making across digital markets.

Moody’s indicated that it plans to expand the platform to cover more blockchain networks and a wider range of financial instruments as adoption grows.

With a workforce of about 16,000 employees across more than 40 countries, Moody’s is leveraging its global reach to position itself at the intersection of traditional finance and emerging digital systems.
