The Olowu of Owu Kuta in Osun State, Oba Dr. Hameed Oyelude Makama, has charged journalists, particularly members of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), to support law enforcement agencies in the fight against insecurity.
The monarch made the charge over the weekend during the 2024 annual lecture and award ceremony of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, which took place in Lagos.
The annual Lecture and Award, with the theme “Justice System Administration in Nigeria: Challenges, Solutions, and Opportunities, attracted top security experts from both the private and public sectors.
Oba Oyelude, who is the Chairman of the Supreme Owu Obas in Nigeria, also noted that the country has been challenged by myriad security issues over the years.
Speaking at the Annual Lecture/Award ceremony of CRAN, held at Sheba Event Centre, Ikeja, he acknowledged the dedication of members of the association in the discharge of their duties.
He further urged media practitioners to be more dedicated, emphasising that the reward of more work is hard work.
His words: “As you all know, our country has been challenged by myriad security issues over the years. I want to acknowledge what the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria has been doing, both collectively and individually, to report crime and follow it to a logical conclusion. They should also know that the reward for hard work is more work.”
“Towards this end, I implore you, more than ever, to work with law enforcement agencies and well-meaning individuals in order to rid the country of undesirable elements fomenting trouble.”
