Men of the Oyo State Fire Services were reportedly attacked during rescue operation at Akingbola area, Bodija in Ibadan North local government area.
The fire fighters in response to a distress call stormed the area to put off the inferno that ravaged one of the residential buildings in the area.
Our correspondent gathered that the officers ran out of water while attempting to arrest the situation.
But in an attempt to refill their water truck, they were attacked by an angry mob.
Confirming the incident, one of the residents said, “Yes, we experienced fire incident today (Tuesday) in our area at Akingbola on Bodija-Ashi road.
“We contacted firefighters immediately and they came around but unfortunately, their water finished halfway.
“We then resulted to self-help. Though, people did not allow them to go scot-free. They were beaten mercilessly.”
When contacted, the General Manager of the state Fire Services, Yemi Akinyinka confirmed the incident on the phone to our correspondent.
