MEMBERS of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), on Wednesday, at Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet’s Mosque) in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, hosted a special prayer session in honour of the senator for Lagos West senatorial district, Dr Idiat Adebule and the chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan, seeking Allah’s guidance and wisdom for the duo in the discharge of their national assignments.
While Adebule is among the 109 senators inaugurated on June 13 as members of the upper chamber of the 10th National Assembly, Hassan, as the NAHCON chairman, is coordinating the effective participation of 95,000 pilgrims from Nigeria in the ongoing Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Members of the MMPN who coordinated the prayers are part NAHCON’s national media team for the coverage of this year’s Hajj.
During the prayer session led by the Weekend Editor of The Guardian, Dr Kabir Garba and Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Lagos State University (LASU), Dr Tunde Akanni, the congregation recited some supplications of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) extracted from ‘Adhkar Al-Mathuraat’.
They also recited together, the last 10 chapters of the Holy Qur’an to seek Allah’s guidance and protection for the two Muslim leaders.
During a lecture that centered on leadership, Dr Akanni thanked Allah for Adebule and Hassan who he said have inspired a lot of people with their exemplary leadership qualities.
He noted that the two have been discharging their responsibilities in accordance with the tenets of Islam, urging other Muslims in positions of responsibility to follow their examples.
“All of us are living witnesses to the fact that they have managed to lead smaller constituencies before attaining their current leadership positions. It is therefore up to the rest of us to also cultivate and sustain leadership in line with Islamic principles.
“For us as Muslims, there is nothing that should be treasured more than abiding by the principles of Islam as provided for in the Qur’an and Hadith of the Prophet (SAW),” Dr Akanni noted.
Journalists in attendance, including the publisher of Hajj Panorama, Alhaji Mikail Mumuni; Chief Executive Officer of Aims Media, Alhaja Aminah Muhammad and Alhaji Bello Ozugha of the Eagle Online, offered supplications for the success of the two leaders.
They also used the occasion to pray for Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu.
In a remark, the convener, Alhaji Tajudeen Adebanjo of The Nation, commended his colleagues for gracing the special prayer session in honour of Dr Adebule and Alhaji Hassan.
