Minor shake-up in NAHCON as pool officers return to MDAs

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Friday announced a minor shake-up in its workforce following a resolution of its Board at its 14th sitting, held between August 26 and 27.

Based on the NAHCON board’s decision to redeploy all pool officers back to their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with immediate effect, the management of the Commission on Thursday issued redeployment letters to the affected officers, directing them to return to their MDAs.

According to a statement signed by NAHCON’s Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Fatima Sanda Usara, “The Board’s decision was taken primarily to eliminate redundancy and reposition the Commission for more effective and efficient service delivery. This step was also taken to motivate staff towards higher performance.”

She added that, in support of the ongoing reforms, the Board had also approved the promotion of deserving officers as well as capacity-building programmes for all staff, aimed at equipping them with the requisite skills to achieve the Commission’s objectives.

Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, assured that the 5th Board would continue to build an effective and resilient workforce dedicated to fulfilling the Commission’s statutory responsibilities in the service of Nigerian pilgrims. “Similarly, NAHCON will continue to introduce other reforms for enhanced productivity,” Usara stated.

Although Usara did not disclose the number of pool officers redeployed to their MDAs, the online platform Hajj Reporters reported that those affected included the Director of Administration, Deputy Director of Audit, Deputy Director of Procurement, and a Deputy Director in the Office of the NAHCON Chairman/CEO, who also doubles as Special Assistant to the Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman.
