Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, on Wednesday, criticised Sunday Bisi, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, for allegedly defaming Mr. Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued to the press in Osogbo, Dr. Akinola stated, that the minister’s office has taken note of a shameful and poorly crafted press release from Sunday Bisi, Chairman of the Osun State chapter of the PDP.
This statement, according to the minister’s aide, is filled with lies, fabrications, and reckless propaganda aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Oyetola, and, by extension, the All Progressives Congress.
He continued, “Let it be made abundantly clear that every claim in the PDP’s fabricated narrative is false, malicious, and baseless. This is merely a deliberate smear campaign prompted by paranoia, fear, and desperation as the PDP anticipates an impending defeat in the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.”
“Contrary to the irresponsible fabrications put forth by the PDP, the Honourable Minister did not—and would never—make any of the statements attributed to him. The entire press release is a textbook example of political fiction, indicative of a party that has become increasingly unhinged in light of its declining popularity.”
Dr. Akinola added, “At no time did the Honourable Minister threaten to rig any election. He remains a staunch advocate for democracy and the rule of law—a legacy he upheld throughout his tenure as Governor of Osun State and continues to embody in his current role as Minister.”
The Honourable Minister has no control, nor has he ever claimed to control INEC, the Police, or the Attorney General of the Federation. The wild claims about “federal might” are not only laughable but an insult to Nigerians’ intelligence and democratic institutions.
“The allegations concerning local government allocations and court rulings are mischievous distortions by a party trying to mask its own incompetence in governance and failure to engage constructively on matters of public interest.”
