Minister calls for calm, says no life lost in Ekiti NYSC camp

The Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that no life was lost in the partial toilet collapse, which occurred early Friday, July 12, 2024, at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ise Orun, Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Olawande revealed that members of the camp community, including two corps members who sustained injuries, were already receiving medical attention.

He implored parents and guidance of those affected by the unfortunate incident to remain calm, a statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations Ministry of Youth Development, Omolara Esan, on Wednesday in Abuja said.

“What happened in Ekiti NYSC Camp is unfortunate, but we are on top of the situation. We would work with the Ekiti State government to significantly improve the facilities on the orientation camp to ensure this kind of ugly incident never reoccurs,” Olawande promised.

While reaffirming the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development towards ensuring the welfare, safety, and well-being of all categories of youth, the Minister urged corps members nationwide to go about their camp activities unperturbed.

He also pledged to engage relevant stakeholders to look into the situation of NYSC camps across the country.
