The minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu has enjoined Nigerians to discourage rumours on the wellbeing of the nation’s president.
It is recalled that Nigeria has been awashed with rumours of death of the president since he travelled abroad on vacation.
Speaking at the 31st edition of the national Qur’anic recitation competition in Ilorin on Friday, the minister, who represented the President at the event, said that President Muhammad Buhari is well and alive.
“I want to give you an example of Ibadanland. I live in Ibadan all my life and I know that when Olubadans are to be appointed, more often than not, they are very very old. A-times you have 70 or 75 years old being appointed as Olubadan and then there will be the presumption that he will die the next day, but in God’s way, the man stayed till 35 years as Olubadan.
If God will do this for an Olubadan, how much more for a President of a beloved country like Nigeria. So what we need is for all of us to pray for our president so that we can continue to enjoy political stability in our country and so that we will enjoy social and economic development”, he said.
Also speaking, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed called on religious leaders in the country to avoid mutual suspicion among the people.
The governor, who said that the country would not witness desired developm1aa11ent in an atmosphere of anarchy, said that religious leaders should promote peaceful coexistence among people.
The governor also charged Muslim leaders to promote Qur’an teachings and recitation to insulate youth from being misled by enemies of the country like insurgents, added that youth could easily be misled if not guided in Quran teachings.
