According to him:
“The fire incident was reported by a passerby, Mr. Lateef, from the Amotekun Bodija Division, who alerted us to the shops on fire at the above address.
“The fire personnel, led by ACFS Mrs. Adedeji, swiftly responded and were deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we found four (4) out of eleven (11) shops engulfed in flames. Our officers immediately swung into action, containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby shops and buildings. The fire was completely extinguished.
“No casualties were recorded. The remote cause of the fire was traced to lighted embers left unattended after the shops were closed at night, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the area ablaze.
“Although four shops were affected, properties worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the agency.”
Akinwande advised the public to be more conscious of fire hazards, stressing the importance of having fire service emergency lines saved on their smartphones. He also urged households to install fire extinguishers in their homes as a precaution against future incidents.
