Microfinance, strong strategy for development, poverty alleviation — LAPO Founder

The founder of Lift Above Poverty Alleviation (LAPO) Microfinance Bank, Dr. Godwin Ehigiamusoe, has stated that microfinance is a strong strategy for meaningful development and poverty alleviation in any country.

Dr. Godwin made this statement during his investiture as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) recently in Lagos.

He explained that there is a need to empower a large number of people at the bottom for development to be feasible.

Ehigiamouse further explained that this empowerment will enhance their income-earning capacity and consequently address the issue of poverty.

“Microfinance is a strong strategy for meaningful development and, of course, poverty alleviation in any country.

“What it means is that if you want to develop any society, you must empower a large number of people at the bottom. I think for a long time, we might not have done that.

“If we must move forward and meaningfully address the issue of poverty, we must empower those people and enhance their income-earning capacity.”

Speaking about his investment as a CIBN Fellow, the founder described it as motivation for him to do more.

He added that the award is a recognition of accomplishment, giving assurances of delivering services to people at the bottom end who handle micro and small businesses.

Ehigiamusoe added that the organisation would continue to serve the people regardless of their status.
