Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms, has acquired Moltbook, a social media platform designed for artificial intelligence (AI) agents, with the startup’s founders expected to join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs as it expands its work on autonomous AI systems.
The acquisition brings Moltbook co-founders, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, into Meta’s AI research division, which former Scale AI chief Alexandr Wang leads.
The founders are expected to start work in the unit on March 16, though Meta did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

Moltbook launched earlier in January 2026 as an experimental platform where AI agents create posts, comment, and interact with one another in discussion threads similar to those on Reddit-style forums. Humans can observe the content but are largely restricted from posting directly on the platform.
The acquisition reflects increasing competition among technology companies seeking talent and tools to build AI agents capable of performing real-world tasks, a development widely seen as the next stage of artificial intelligence.
Meanwhile, Moltbook quickly attracted attention after its launch, as bots appeared to exchange code and discuss their human operators on the platform. The site also grew rapidly, with reports suggesting it hosted more than 1.6 million AI agents within weeks of its debut.
Meta’s move forms part of its broader push into advanced AI development, as companies race to build systems that surpass chatbots and can autonomously carry out complex tasks.
