As families continue to lose value, with marriages also crashing rapidly, men have been advised to rebuild their homes by making themselves available in building their home and assisting their wives with household chores.
The brains behind the Men Too Can Cook (METOCAC), a ministry aimed at proffering solutions to some of the challenging areas of life, including choosing a life partner, career, child-sex education among others, hosted couples at the third edition of its annual event, at Ajet Community Hall, Eyin Grammar, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State, last Friday.
The convener of the ministry, Mr Damilare Adebajo, stressed the importance of how people can live a fulfilling life and fix anything that is affecting their existence.
Speaking to Tribune Church News, Adebajo said, “The initiative is aimed at handling marital issues, choosing a life partner, mentorship in all areas and skill acquisition. One of the ways to better our lives is to have good health and that is why we have partnered with some clinics, conduct eye test, PCV test and BP test for free, so that people will know the state of their health.
“We discover that men see house chores and helping around the house as a woman’s business. Generally, the African mentality tags it as a taboo to see a man going to the kitchen to assist his wife. Religiously, the woman was created as a helpmate not a slave. We are trying to pass a message across that building a home requires team work. If the husband can assist his wife, the workload will be lesser on the wife. They will both live happily, and this will build intimacy. So, I will say the cooking is just the brand’s identity, he said.
The programme attracted people from all walks of life as people also benefited from the free check-up that was conducted by some medical personnel, while it also featured a cooking competition with male contestants in the presence of their partners.
