As part of efforts to eradicate measles-rubella in the state, the Adamawa State Government has announced the kick-off date of the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign across all twenty-one (21) local government areas of the state.
Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADSPHCDA), Dr Suleiman Sa’idu Bashir, disclosed this at a media engagement in Yola today.
He said the nationwide exercise would commence from 16th to 27th October 2025 in Adamawa State, urging the public to cooperate with the health teams to ensure the vaccination campaign is a success.
Dr Bashir, while stressing the need for parents to take advantage of the opportunity, explained that the vaccine is safe, reliable and free.
He added that the exercise would be administered to children from 9 months to 14 years old with a view to safeguarding them from measles-rubella and other related diseases.
“We at the Agency appreciate the support being rendered by parents towards immunisation exercises. We therefore call on everyone to kindly mobilise their children for the exercise,” he said.
“Our health workers and caregivers are being sensitised and grouped into teams to conduct the vaccination exercise across the 226 political wards in the state,” Bashir assured.
In his remarks, the Director of Disease Control and Immunisation, Dr Jacob Vasumu, said the measles-rubella campaign is a nationwide exercise, stressing that the vaccine is important, free and effective.
He added that the Agency is committed to delivering quality healthcare to the people of the state, noting that the proposed immunisation will target over 2.5 million children in Adamawa.
“We appeal for support and cooperation from the public for the success of the exercise. A total of 1,024 health workers with an additional 1,685 ad hoc staff have been trained and deployed for the vaccination campaign,” he stated.
In their goodwill messages as development partners to the Agency, Samuel Sha’abu of AFENET-STA and Dr Moses Kussing of IVAC-STA expressed gratitude for the initiative, confirming that the measles-rubella vaccines are beneficial to children’s health. They urged parents and guardians to present their wards for immunisation.
