MDCN inducts 128 AAU graduates

One hundred and twenty-eight medical graduates of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, were recently inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) at a ceremony in Ekpoma.

Addressing the inductees during the oath-taking ceremony, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of MDCN, Dr. Fatima Kyari, urged the new doctors to view their profession as a service to humanity.

Kyari, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Registrar, Dr. Enjoy Abdu, said, “This marks the beginning of your medical career.

“Although your training may have been challenging, it is now that your knowledge will be put to the test.

“Be prepared to exemplify the values of Ambrose Alli University and our noble profession.”

In their various messages, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Cyril Oshiomhole and his Education counterpart, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, enjoined the medical doctors to see services to humanity beyond the acquisition of wealth.

“The nation and, by extension, Edo State need your services to improve on our health care system. The society has nurtured you to this point, it is expected that you give back to it through your services,” Iyamu said.

The Chief Medical Director, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Professor Reuben Eifediyi, who was the guest lecturer at the event charged the new medical doctors to adhere by their various professional oaths taken.

Eifediyi acknowledged the transition of medical students to the stage of becoming medical practitioners as one that is full of challenges.

In his remarks, the acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, said: “When the present management came on board, one of the problems inherited was the issue of the College of Medicine.

“We may not have solved all the problems, but I can tell you that with the support of our dynamic and people-oriented governor, these challenges will soon be surmounted.”

The highlight of the event was the oath-taking and swearing-in of fresh doctors, and presentation of awards to deserving doctors, among others.
