The Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) seeks to leverage World Bank partnerships to boost Nigeria’s mining sector, driving economic growth and development through strategic collaborations and investments, increasing revenue generation and creating new opportunities for economic diversification, enhancing the sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP, and improving the overall mining landscape in Nigeria.
The Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) welcomed a high-powered delegation from the World Bank, led by Naora Arfua, on a working visit on Friday at MCO headquarters in Abuja.
The purpose of the visit was to engage in discussions on potential collaborations and support for the Nigerian mining sector.

During the meeting, Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, Director General of the MCO, and the World Bank delegation explored ways to strengthen the mining sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency and transparency of mining operations sector and ensure its optimal contribution, promoting sustainable practices in the mining sector to ensure environmental protection and social responsibility.
The World Bank delegation expressed its admiration for the MCO’s efforts in transforming the mining sector through digitalisation and transparency initiatives. They also highlighted the Bank’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development goals, particularly in the extractives sector.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to explore potential partnership opportunities that would benefit the Nigerian mining sector and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
