The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano on Wednesday, gave more assurance that his administration would continue to accord priority to the welfare of workers in the state.
The governor made this known during the 2019 Worker’s Day celebration with the Theme: “Another 100 Years of Struggle for Jobs, Dignity and Social Justice in Nigeria” held, at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square Awka, the state capital.
Declaring the celebration open, Governor Obiano, appreciated the workers in the state for their unalloyed support to his administration especially, during the just concluded House of Assembly elections that made his party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) win the election convincingly.
He further reassured the workers that he would continue to fulfill all the promises including the payment of the 30,000 New National Minimum Wage made to them, saying that the welfare remains paramount to his administration and called on them to always discharge their duties effectively and efficiently for the overall development of Anambra State.

State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, Comrade Ifeanyi Ofodie, eulogised Governor Obiano for his sterling performance in the state especially the prompt payment of workers’ salaries, efficient security network, infrastructural development among others, and appealed to the governor to also look at the issue of housing deficit, lack of qualified teachers confronting the teachers in the state among others.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Jerry Nubia, in his address, said that the celebration affords the members an opportunity to interact and reach resolutions on issues that bind them together in order to move the union forward.
Other dignitaries present at the event include the state Chairman of Trade Union Congress, Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu, Anambra State head of civil service, Barrier Harry Uduh, Chief of Staff to the Governor Hon. Premius Odilli, State chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Demian Ogene-Okeke, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Maduagwu, traditional rulers among others.
