Matawalle visits Shettima amidst call for EFCC probe

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has visited the Presidential Villa amidst the call for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to reopen the investigations on the activities of the minister while he was a governor.

TRIBUNE ONLINE on Friday reported that some protesters stormed the headquarters of EFCC asking the anti-graft agency to reopen investigations on the former governor of the state.

Protesters from the APC Loyalists Forum are urging the EFCC to investigate various petitions against the former governor, including allegations of contract diversion amounting to N70 billion during his tenure.

The protest letter was reportedly received by the EFCC Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, on behalf of the chairman.

Meanwhile, in a statement provided to Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Friday by Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, the minister emphasized the importance of the North embracing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.

The discussions during the visit were centred on the developmental benefits that align with this agenda for the Northern region, Ogubike said.

“Accordingly, he Minister restated his commitment in supporting and defending the government’s policies and programs, rather than criticizing them.

“He stressed the need for constructive dialogue and suggestions for improvement and reminded all appointees of their responsibilities to promote the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on addressing security, economic, and social challenges.”
