Massive earthquake rocks Western Turkey

Effect of 6.2 magnitude earthquake.

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Western Turkey on Monday, the country’s disaster and emergency authority said, rattling the Aegean coast and Greece.

The disaster and emergency authority said the quake hit at 1228 GMT (Around 1:28pm WAT).

Tremors were felt in the coastal city of Izmir, some 330 km away in Istanbul as well as in the provinces of Canakkale and Bursa.

The U.S. Geological Survey said it took place at a depth of 5 km and hit about 31 km south-west of Mytilini on the Greek island of Lesbos.

Broadcaster CNN Turk said there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
