The Bristol Fashion Show recently took place in the lively city of Bristol, UK, showcasing numerous talented fashion brands on the runway at the esteemed venue, The Mount Without, BS2 8FN. Among the standout participants was the Nigeria-based womenswear brand Marona Fashion International, which showcased its vibrant collection titled “Own Your Style.”
Staying true to the brand’s ethos, the collection featured pieces unified by themes of happiness, comfort, and style. Creative Director Mary Obabori of Marona Fashion International leaned into adire prints, characterized by bold and salient lines and patterns, to interpret the theme. With a focus on comfort and style, the collection dazzled with its captivating designs, enhancing the women who wore them.
Although Marona Fashion is synonymous with a mix of boubou and pants sets, its SS24 collection presented at The Bristol Fashion Show showcased more two-piece outfits blending African heritage with modern style. The lineup included tiered dresses, crop tops, and two-pieces, all designed to evoke a sense of comfort and femininity. This collection was a true celebration of femininity, inclusivity, and craftsmanship.
The Looks
The lineup featured a range of looser, breathable silhouettes with bold tones, predominantly monochrome in rich African prints, particularly Adire Batik. Adire prints adorned most pieces, while crepe embellished the neck and sleeves. A standout was the seemingly bold-striped two-piece set, featuring adjustable side ropes and a stylishly placed chest pocket.
Also noteworthy was a mini stripe-print monochrome two-piece, featuring a kimono jacket and an ankle-length wide-leg pant. The kimono was layered with an orange lapel and an orange outer pocket, adding an interesting play of colors to the set.
Another standout set from the memorable collection was the Adire Sisi-Eko two-piece, featuring baggy pants paired with a pink off-shoulder crop top. The print on the fabric is unique due to its in-house design.
The collection is innovative and commendable, with each design effortlessly combining style and comfort, making it my top choice for any occasion.
This collection marks a new chapter in Afro-centric fashion, honoring tradition while embracing future possibilities.The styles reflect black culture within the UK and Nigeria. With each new piece, Marona Fashion shows its commitment to quality and creativity, firmly establishing its status as a true icon of Nigerian fashion.
