Many feared trapped as two-storey building collapses in Anambra

Published by

A two-storey building on Wednesday caved in, offloading its huge weight on the ground in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

The building which is still under construction, very close to Diamond Pizza, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway is a two-storey building awaiting roofing, before its collapse.

It is, however, not clear the casualty figure in the incident, but some bystanders in the area said some artisans who were engaged in construction work in the building may have been trapped.

As of the time of filing this report, many volunteers are still at the site, trying to see if there are people who are trapped that can be rescued.

The cause of the collapse has however not been ascertained, as state government officials from the material testing department of the Ministry of Housing were still arriving.
