Smith was arraigned on a three-count charge, bordering on joint act, trespass and theft, offences he denied committing.
The prosecutor, Vincent Osuji, told the court that one Fidelia Akala of FHA Phase 1, Karu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, Abuja, on March 1, around 10:p.m.
He said that the complainant alleged that on the same date, the defendant jointly conspired with one Maria and Emmanuel, both of Karu, now at large, and stole a set of split unit air-conditioners at her residence.
He also informed the court that two of the conspirators are currently undergoing trial in the same court for same offences.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 348 and 79 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Hassan Ishaq, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until April 23, for hearing.
