A Shari’a court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, sentenced Muhammad Jibo to three months in a correctional facility for cheating two businessmen, Faruq Abubakar and Aliyu Mudi, on Monday.
The Judge, Malam Kabir Muhammad, offered the convict an alternative penalty of a fine of N15,000.
Additionally, he ordered Jibo to repay the NN700,000 he had taken, along with N50,000 in costs to the complainants.
If he fails to do so, he faces a two-year prison term.
The ruling was given after the accused pleaded guilty to the charges of cheating
Muhammad requested that the court grant him time to pay back the money.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Luka Sadau, told the court that the convict collected N700,000 from the nominal complainants under the pretence that he wanted to clear some issues with regards to a contract he was awarded.
Sadau said that the convict promised to pay back the money to the owners immediately, but that effort made to get the money from him proved abortive.
He said that it was later discovered that the convict was not awarded any contract.
