Man bags 3 months imprisonment for stealing bag of beans

A Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Annas Isah, to three months imprisonment for stealing a bag of beans.

The judge, Sani Mohammed, however, gave the convict an option of N30,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes in the future.

The convict, who had pleaded guilty to the charges of criminal trespass and theft, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying he would never commit any crime again.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, had told the court that one Alhaji Ahmadu of Karu Market, Abuja, reported the matter at Karu Police Station, Abuja on Jan. 11.

Adeyanju alleged that the convict on Jan. 11, entered into the complainant’s shop at the above mentioned address and stole one bag of beans, valued at N30,000.

He told the court that vigilant neignbours caught the convict and recovered the stolen item from him.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
