The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Mr. Godgift Bai, for allegedly circulating a nude video of his ex-girlfriend on social media platforms.
The arrest follows an investigation by the Cyber Crime Unit, directed by the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Alonyenu Francis Idu.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Mohammed, the incident involved a 20-year-old undergraduate who had loaned Bai ₦30,000 between August 9th and 16th.
When Bai failed to repay the loan, the victim sought police intervention, leading to the recovery of the funds.
In retaliation, Bai allegedly leaked the nude videos of his ex-girlfriend to bloggers for public circulation.
ASP Mohammed condemned the act, stating, “The Command condemns the act of cyberstalking, especially targeting vulnerable individuals, and reiterates its commitment to curbing such crimes and related offenses within the state.”
He further urged the public to desist from exploiting others online.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and Bai will be charged to court in due course.
