Man, 35, docked over alleged theft of valuables worth N200,000

A 35-year-old man, Inumidun Akinlaja on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing valuables worth N200, 000.

The defendant whose occupation and address is unknown is facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi told the court that the defendant and one other still at large, on June 22 around 7 p.m. at a site along Okitipupa-Igbokoda road in Okitipupa magisterial district, conspired to commit a felony.

He said that the defendant and his accomplice, entered into the house of one Adedayo Eripitan and stole 45 inches LG LCD TV, LG standing fan, and DSTV decoder valued N200,000, the property of Eripitan.

The Prosecutor said that the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 516 and 390(9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Al-Yunus admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and a surety in like sum with evidence of a year tax clearance paid to the State government.

Al-Yunus ordered that the surety must be a resident within Okitipupa magisterial district.

He adjourned the case till Aug. 17, for further hearing.
