The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a party of “political vampires” that thrives on the suffering of Nigerians.
The PDP’s statement was prompted by what it described as an “arrogant and reckless” attack by the APC on Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
In the statement issued on Monday by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the party called on the APC to “end its charade, accept its failures, and prepare for political retirement.”
He added that the PDP remains committed to restoring Nigeria’s prosperity and governance by 2027, when, he asserted, “Nigerians will send the APC into political oblivion.”
According to the main opposition party, the APC leadership has repeatedly demonstrated a disregard for the well-being of citizens, imposing painful economic hardships and policies that only serve the interests of the elite.
The PDP accused the APC of being a refuge for “power-grabbers, treasury looters, and manipulators” who seek only to “grab, snatch, and run” with Nigeria’s national resources, leaving the masses to bear the burden of their actions.
The PDP argued that Governor Makinde has been an outspoken advocate for Nigerians, voicing the frustrations of citizens impacted by the APC’s governance.
The PDP denounced the APC’s attack on Makinde, characterizing it as a desperate attempt to silence criticism of its policies.
The party highlighted that Governor Makinde’s achievements in Oyo State reflect his commitment to development and good governance.
The PDP noted that, under his leadership, Oyo State has witnessed numerous infrastructure projects aimed at improving the lives of its residents.
Additionally, the PDP stated that Makinde works closely with other PDP governors to foster democratic development and resist what it sees as the APC’s efforts to create a “one-party state.”
Amid rising insecurity, high unemployment, economic instability, and a deteriorating national infrastructure, the PDP pointed out that the APC remains out of touch with the reality of Nigerian citizens.
The PDP described as “delusional” the APC’s recent claim that the country is “on the cusp of prosperity,” arguing that the current administration’s anti-people policies have led to unprecedented hardship across Nigeria.
It cited statistics, including the exchange rate of the Naira, which has reportedly risen from N168 per Dollar under the PDP to nearly N2,000 per Dollar under the APC.
Other inflation indicators were highlighted as well, with the cost of basic necessities such as petrol, rice, beans, and garri skyrocketing under APC leadership.

The PDP argued that, while the average Nigerian faces daily economic struggles, the APC elite continue to live in luxury, spending public funds on their personal comforts rather than addressing the needs of the population.
With the next general elections approaching in 2027, the PDP expressed confidence that Nigerians will not be swayed by the APC’s “manipulation of data and false claims of performance.”
The PDP described its own governors as “oases of development” in the current political landscape, contrasting them with what it claims is the APC’s inability to deliver on its promises.
