We must see that success in life is heavily hinged on preparation more than luck. Our self esteem must be healthy. We need to see ourselves as people alive to execute a divine mandate to positively contribute to society and this will demand more than luck. This kind of attitude will rightly position us to persevere and wade through thick and thin to ensure we contribute meaningfully to society (through our career, profession or in whatever endeavour we engage in).
“People like to say they got lucky. And sometimes, what happened was simply that, blind luck. In my experience, more often than not, it is something much more than that. Preparation in anticipation of something happening is a big part of being lucky. “ Senaca
To succeed in life we must walk with the understanding that we are critical contributors to life that to give up or depend on luck is just out of the point.
“One sad truth of existence is that most people give up long before they should. Being in the right place at the right time involves being in a lot of places at a lot of times that might seem inconvenient or even painful. You’ve heard that luck favors the well-prepared but what about luck favoring the tenacious? Ever successful (you might say “lucky”) person I know has come very close to giving up many times. They’ve looked failure directly in the eyes and said, “not yet.” Sure, they’ve closed businesses, lost clients, and left relationships. But they never stopped trying. They never gave up.” Seth Simonds
Seeing ourselves as indispensible contributors to society will also help in putting the right value on what we do. With this attitude we will never undermine, undervalue or under-rate what we do and this positions us to give and put in our best.
Right positioning also demands being equipped for whatever we are involved in. “You contain within yourself a unique combination of talents and abilities which, properly identified and applied, will enable you to achieve virtually any goal you can set for yourself .” Brian Tracy
Many people attribute their failure or inability to being unlucky whereas they might just being ill-equipped to get things done. An ill-equipped person is wrongly positioned while a well equipped person is strategically position to excel. Being equipped has many dimensions. It implies being adequately qualified for whatever we are involved in. This means getting adequate and relevant training to be able to do a good job.
“You can put yourself in the right place at the right time more often by identifying an area in which you have the necessary skills and knowledge to capitalize on sudden opportunities.” Seth Simonds
Right positioning also demands being at the right place at the right time. Not willing to learn and move with the times is wrong positioning. There was a time when photography business was done by “Polaroid-wait-and-get” (when last did you see one of such cameras?) A photographer who does not move with the times to learn the use of digital cameras is wrongly positioned and is bound to be out of business soon.
