Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has tasked the twenty recently sworn in local government councils chairpersons to be prudent in managing available resources meant for the development of their various areas.

The Governor gave the charge on Thursday while receiving the chairpersons who collectively paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Bauchi.

The Governor stressed that the call became necessary considering the fact that they will be leading by their various Councils through the established local government financial autonomy as ruled by the Supreme Court judgement granting autonomy to LGAs in the country.

Bala Mohammed also advised them to study government policies, civil service rules and financial instructions to be able to provide quality leadership that would guarantee their successes.

The Governor said the recent Supreme Court judgement which granted financial autonomy for the local governments came with misunderstanding in the implementation of the judgment.

He, however, assured of its full implementation after completion of the assignment being conducted by the Committee of Attorneys General across the country regarding the new Constitutional provision.

According to him, with or without the autonomy, his administration remains committed to providing all the needed support in critical sectors of healthcare services, education, infrastructure and human capital development.

He therefore stressed the need for the chairpersons to deepen stake holding through establishment of effective working collaboration with traditional institutions, religious organizations and security agencies.

To succeed in their roles, the Governor advised the chairpersons to foster effective working relationships with traditional institutions, collaborate with religious organizations and engage with security agencies.

Bala Mohammed emphasised that these partnerships are crucial for deepening stack holding and addressing community challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the chairpersons, chairperson Bauchi Local Government Council, Alhaji Mahmood Baba Ma’aji expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and promised to deliver on their mandate.

He also commended Bala Mohammed for his concern on the plights of communities at the local levels.

Baba Ma’aji assured the Governor that the chairpersons are prepared to work tirelessly to improve the lives of their people, leveraging the financial autonomy to drive development and growth.

The meeting was attended by top government officials, local government councilors, and other stakeholders, marking the beginning of a new era of cooperation and development in Bauchi State’s local governments.
