Not every time does a billionaire let people into the secrets of their wealth, but for Tony Elumelu, there is always an exception to the rule. The Africapitalism crusader, known for his suave dress sense and charisma, recently took the youths down memory lane, sharing how his rise to the top truly began.
He recalled being just 27 when HRM Ebitimi Banigo handed him the reins of a whole branch at AllStates Trust Bank.
At the time, many doubted a young man could handle such responsibility, but that one chance ended up changing the entire course of his life.
For Elumelu, age was never a barrier. He believes leadership answers only to vision, discipline, and execution, not the number of years on your birth certificate.
He also made it clear that trust is the real capital. Long before the billions, it was trust that gave him his first platform. Someone believed in him, and he repaid that belief with results.
And then came perspective. True leadership, in his words, is not about doing everything yourself but about setting direction, empowering others, and giving clarity.

From that bold beginning to his monumental success at UBA, where he transformed the bank into a pan-African giant, Elumelu has consistently shown that style, discipline, and vision can go hand in hand.
Beyond the boardroom, his passion for the youths is unmistakable, as he continues to invest in the next generation of African leaders through his Tony Elumelu Foundation.
