In a bid to strengthen security and enhance the safety of schoolchildren and residents, the Senator representing Jigawa North-East Senatorial District, Senator Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam Madori, has reconstructed and upgraded the Birniwa Divisional Police Station in Birniwa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The police facility, which had reportedly remained abandoned and dilapidated since 2019, has now been rehabilitated, expanded and fenced to provide a conducive operational environment for security personnel and improve policing within the area.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, the senator’s Personal Assistant, Hon. Adamu Ibrahim Adamu Gira, said the intervention was part of Senator Madori’s commitment to complementing the Federal Government’s efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on security and public safety.

According to him, Birniwa was selected as a priority location due to the deteriorating condition of the police station and its strategic position along a major road linking Jigawa State with neighbouring states.

He explained that the area’s proximity to parts of Yobe and Borno states, which have experienced security challenges in recent years, makes it vulnerable to criminal activities and necessitates a stronger security presence.

“The project involved comprehensive renovation works, including rebuilding sections of the structure, re-roofing, perimeter fencing, furnishing of offices and refurbishment of toilet facilities,” Gira stated.

He added that beyond the physical reconstruction, the facility had been fully equipped to operate effectively as a divisional police station.

“The construction of a perimeter fence and other supporting infrastructure is aimed at ensuring the station becomes fully functional and capable of meeting modern policing requirements,” he said.

Gira further disclosed that the project forms part of several constituency interventions being executed by Senator Madori across the Jigawa North-East Senatorial District to improve security, infrastructure and the overall welfare of constituents.

He revealed that plans were already underway to construct residential quarters within the police station premises to accommodate officers posted to the area and enhance rapid response to security situations.

The senator’s aide expressed optimism that the upgraded facility would significantly improve policing and crime prevention efforts in the locality, noting that arrangements were being made for the deployment of additional personnel to the station.

He commended Senator Madori for prioritising security projects, stressing that a functional and well-equipped police station would greatly enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies to safeguard lives and property.

When contacted, Senator Madori reaffirmed his commitment to the socio-economic development of the people of Jigawa North-East, maintaining that security remains a critical foundation for sustainable growth and development.

The lawmaker pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, strengthen security institutions and improve the living conditions of his constituents.
