The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and media executive, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Getso, describing his passing as a great loss to the journalism profession and Kano State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Council’s Secretary, Hauwa Suleiman Zahradeen, the Acting Chairman of the Council, Comrade Mustapha Gambo, extended the union’s heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and the people of Getso community in Gwarzo Local Government Area.

Gambo described the late Adamu Getso as an accomplished media professional whose contributions to public enlightenment and the development of journalism in Kano State would remain unforgettable.

“The late Adamu Getso was a versatile media executive who dedicated his career to the service of the people and the journalism profession. His impact on public enlightenment remains a reference point in the state,” he said.

The NUJ noted that Getso played a significant role in the state’s media landscape, particularly as a lead anchor of key political and developmental programmes during the first and second administrations of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

According to the union, his exceptional broadcasting skills helped to inform, educate, and engage the public on government policies, developmental programmes, and critical societal issues across Kano State and beyond.

The council said Getso’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to ethical journalism earned him respect within the media industry and among members of the public.

While mourning his passing, the NUJ Kano State Council prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus, and give his family the strength to bear the loss.

The union also reaffirmed its solidarity with the media fraternity and the people of Kano State, noting that the late broadcaster’s voice, experience, and contributions would be greatly missed.

Adamu Ibrahim Getso was widely regarded as one of Kano’s respected media figures, whose career left a lasting mark on broadcasting and public communication in the state.
