Clinical lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have embarked on indefinite strike over the non-payment of their salaries under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).
In a statement signed by its Chairman Dr. Ruth Ilori and Secretary Dr. Abraham Akinbola, the lecturers condemned the salary shortfall, describing it as unfair, discriminatory and unjust.

The statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, said the strike followed the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued by the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), South-West Zone.
The MDCAN, South-West Zone had demanded full implementation of CONMESS for clinical lecturers.
They lamented that only universities in the South-West have refused to comply with CONMESS, leading to brain drain and setbacks in medical education within the region.
The lecturers called on relevant stakeholders to intervene urgently, warning that failure to address the issue could further destabilize the medical education system in Nigeria.
