LAUTECH Alumni donates 1000-seater civic centre to campus

The worldwide Alumni Association of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso has donated an ultra-modern 1000-seater Civic Centre to the institution, as it also deemed it fit to give scholarship awards to the best graduating students drawn from all the faculties of the institution.

Speaking during the commissioning of the new civic centre, held recently, the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, commended the Global President, Onilede Solomon-led administration for its developmental agenda in support of their Alma Mater. He urged the leadership of the association not to be distracted, but to continue to concentrate on discharging its obligations to members and the university community in general.

Global President Onilede, in his welcome address, stated that the multimillion naira edifice was initiated by the previous administration led by Chief Babajide Bewaji and completed by his administration.

He said: “The Alumni association did not seek external support in any form from the foundation to the completion. I appreciate all members of this Great Association for their contributions toward the success of this ultra-modern LAUTECH Civic Centre and other laudable projects our administration have recorded so far.

“May I also use this medium to appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State Government for his purposeful collaboration to move LAUTECH forward. Your Excellency, we shall continue to appreciate you for giving our Alma Mater a new life. You’ve indeed written your name in gold for generations to come. May Almighty God continue to strengthen your absolute commitment to the growth of LAUTECH and Oyo State in general.

“I also extend our most sincere gratitude to Professor Omole-led Governing Council, the university management under the leadership of Professor Liasu, the past leaderships of the Association, Board of Trustees, Chapter executives, our teeming members and partners for their contribution s towards the success story of the project.

“Your Excellency and dear audience, I am proud to inform you that our administration is result-oriented. To the glory of God, we have delivered 90 per cent of what we set out to achieve. Last year, our administration commissioned N25million e-Library and also gave scholarships to 40 indigent students.

“This time around, our administration gave scholarship awards to not less than 25 best graduating students drawn from all the facilities in the university. In addition, as Global President of this Great Association, I personally gave out awards to the four best graduating students in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences and awards to another four best graduating students in the Department of Pure and Applied Physics.

“With God on our side, I assure you that our administration shall achieve more for both the association and our Alma Mater,” he stressed.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion were; the Secretary to Oyo State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi; Governing Council Chairman, Professor Omole.

Others included the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Alumni Association, Chief Jide Bewaji; the Global Executives of the association, chapter executives crucial stakeholders of the institution and other top government officials.
