A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa state on Thursday remanded one of the children of late former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua, Aminu Yaradua in custody for the alleged killing of 4 people in an auto crash in Yola.
Aminu Musa Yaradua who is a Student of American University (AUN) Yola, was charged to court for allegedly causing death by dangerous driving on June 23, 2021.
This is coming as families of the victims are demanding a whopping sum of N15 million as compensation from the 36-year-old son of the former president.
It could be recalled that Aminu, had while driving a 4Matic Mercedes Benz jeep along Yola bye-pass on that fateful day, lost control due to overspeeding and knocked down 6 people out of which 4 were reportedly killed, while 2 others sustained injuries.
Those that died in the accident included; Aisha Umar (30), Aisha Mamadu (32), Suleiman Abubakar (2) and Jummai Abubakar (30), while Rejoice Annu (28) and Hajara Aliyu (27) sustained injuries.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) presented in the court by the prosecutor, Inspector Zakka Musa, all the victims hailed from Sabon Pegi in Yola South Local Government Area.
He told the court that the relatives of late Aisha Umar, Suleiman Abubakar and Jummai Abubakar are demanding the sum of N15 million from the accused as compensation.
But when the FIR was read to him as prayed by Inspector Zakka Musa, he denied committing the offence, saying that the allegation is not true.
It was as a result of that that the prosecutor pleaded with the court to adjourn the matter to enable the prosecution to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) Ministry of Justice Yola for legal advice.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Jummai Ibrahim, adjourned the matter to August 19, 2021, for further mention, and ordered that the ex-president’s son be remanded in prison custody till then.
