On Monday, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the burial activities of the late Iyalode Alaba Lawson, Chief Sanya Abiola, disclosed that the deceased had instructed that there should be no drumming or dancing during her funeral, which begins on December 1.
He stated this at a press conference held at her residence in Abeokuta: that the instruction was one of her wishes before her passage on October 28, at the age of 72 years.
Abiola said that the first Iyalode of Yorubaland and the fourth Iyalode of Egbaland would be honoured by the NACCIMA Business Women Group (NAWORG) with a special service in Lagos on December 1, while the ECOWAS Federation of Business Women Entrepreneurs will hold a number of tributes in her honour on December 4, also in Lagos State.
He said further that the African Church, Nigeria, will hold a service of songs in her honour at the Cathedral of St. James’ African Church, Idi-Ape, Abeokuta, on Tuesday, December 5th.
The Association of Egba Traders (Egba Lawa), Oke Ona Council of Chiefs, Egba Christian Chiefs, and Lawson Group of Schools would hold different sessions in her honour.
While the Christian Wake/Night of Tributes is held on Thursday, December 7 at the Marquee of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, the final funeral service comes up on Friday, December 8th, at the Cathedral of St. James’ African Church, Idi-Ape, Abeokuta.
