The Lagos State government on Monday said that it had completed the construction of 83.92 kilometres of roads across the state from 2016 to date.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr Temidayo Erinle, said this during the 2017 Ministerial Press Briefing of the ministry to commemorate Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode’s second year in office.
He said that the state was currently constructing a total of 99.147 kilometres of roads in both the rural and urban areas, to ease movements.
Erinle said that the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) was working on 807 roads, out of which it had delivered 532 and was still working on 275 projects.
“LSPWC is saddled with the responsibility of maintenance and rehabilitation of roads in Lagos State. From April 2016, the corporation has worked on 807 projects,’’ he said.
The permanent secretary said that the state government had completed a total of five foot bridges totalling 0.47 kilometres since 2016, adding that three others were ongoing and were at various stages of completion.
He said that other roads constructed included the Ajah and Abule Egba flyovers, the upgrading of the Freedom Road, Admiralty Road in Eti-Osa Local Government, Ayetoro Road in Alimosho Local Government, Isefun, Camp Davies New Market roads in Alimosho, the upgrading of Arterial/inner roads in Epe and Ojodu Berger roads and laybys.
Erinle said that contracts had been awarded for some major roads which include the rehabilitation/maintenence of Lekki-Epe Expressway, dualisation of Irede road in Amuwo Odofin and the construction of Aradagun-Iworo, Ajide Epeme road, with bridges in Badagry, among others.
The permanent secretary said that the state was also proposing the construction of some major roads which include the 4th Mainland Bridge, the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, Igbogbo-Igbe road in Ikorodu, Ilaje road and Odunsi in Shomolu and Agric-Isawo-Konu-Arepo, to link the Lagos Badagry Expressway.
He said that the ministry had maintained some public buildings which included Magistrates Courts in Igbosere, Ikeja, Badagry, Ajegunle, and Ajah, adding that primary healthcare centres were also reconstructed in Orile, Agege, Simpson, Eti-Osa and Epe.
Erinle said the state had also supervised various projects in the Lagos State University and other tertiary institutions in the state.
