A landlady, Musli Tiamiyu, broke into her tenant’s apartment and threw out his property in the rain in a bid to evict him, the prosecution told an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The 44-year-old trader, who resides at 10, Olorunshola St., Ojodu, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for burglary, damage, stealing and assault.
Police Prosecutor Innocent Odugbo said the accused claimed that she had given the complainant, Mr Henry Igbokwe, a notice to quit her house but he refused to leave.
“The accused took laws into her hands and burgled the apartment of the accused and brought out some of his properties when he was not at home.
“She left the property in the rain and his television set was damaged; the accused could not find his generator, the mobile phone he kept in his room and N200,000 when he returned,” he told the court.
Odugbo alleged that the accused also pushed a police officer who came to arrest her.
According to him, the offences which contravened Sections 174, 280, 308 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, were committed on June 13 at the accused’s residence.
The landlady, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Ruling on her bail application, the Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 11.
