Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has described as impressive, the turn-out of voters in the presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking with journalists in Oro, Irepodun local government area of Kwara state, shortly after casting his vote, the APC leader in Kwara state described the 2019 elections as historic.
Alhaji Mohammed, who cast his vote around 11:30 am at unit 006 Oro ward 2, said that the poll had largely been peaceful in his area.
“The observation raised here is that there was a certain polling unit in Oro ward 2, in particular, the card readers are not functioning. We have reported it to the authorities. In most areas, there is a disparity in materials for the Presidential and National Assembly election, we have also brought this to the notice of the authorities.
“Reports from other areas, for instance, there a mix-up in ASA local government where material meant for Wobi-were is taken to Owode. We have also reported this’’.
“We have also noticed that there is no adequate police presence in Ajase-Ipo and Agbeola. We have also alerted the authorities.
On the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Alhaji Mohammed said “it is always very difficult to pronounce any verdict until after the counting and announcement of result. You can only make observations and judgment about your on unit.
“So far where I cast my vote the card readers are working perfectly. There is orderliness and I can see the passion in the electorate. I think they have put behind them the disappointment of the last week.
“The rest depends on the umpire, which is INEC. The electorate has done their own part. They want their votes to count and they want their votes to be counted,” he said.
Also speaking after casting his vote on Saturday, the APC governorship candidate in Kwara state, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said that the conduct of the election was good despite some observed hitches.
“So far so good, we have had some issues with card readers and missing ballot papers all over the state. But everything is calm, good security. The turnout has been good.
The APC governorship candidate also said that the party had a good chance in the election, saying that, “APC campaigned throughout the federation but PDP did not. They were banking on something or somebody to rig the election. President (Muhammadu Buhari) campaigned vigorously, our senatorial and all National Assembly candidates campaigned vigorously. They were very confident that APC would win the presidential and National Assembly elections.”
