Lagos chapter of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) have partnered to boost the state’s education sector and enhance quality in the sector.

To achieve this, a three-day capacity-building workshop was held at Dover Hotels, Ikeja, with the theme “Education Policy Development Strategies and Purposeful Implementation of Basic Education Programme,” aimed to equip management staff with the knowledge and skills needed to develop effective education policies and drive purposeful programme implementation.

Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr Babatunde Hakeem Shittu, who declared the workshop open, emphasised the board’s commitment to improving basic education quality in the state in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s “Greater Lagos” plan.

Head of Training and Research of NIEPA, Dr. Anne Lara Ogunsola, in a speech, highlighted the importance of such training in enhancing education delivery and outcomes, and said that NIEPA had ongoing collaboration with UNICEF to develop education sector plans for over seven states in the country.

Key LASUBEB management members and stakeholders attended the workshop, demonstrating the board’s commitment to collaborative efforts in driving quality education in Lagos.

The Director of Teacher Professional Development of LASUBEB, Mrs. Olayemi Babarinde, told the gathering that the goal of the workshop was to enhance education planning and management, ensuring no child was left behind.

According to NIEPA’s Media Officer, Bodunde Tenabe, the Lagos SUBEB officials were engaged by facilitators from NIEPA, Ondo State, in a range of topics including education policy development, strategic planning, programme implementation, effective stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, and data-driven decision-making.

Tenabe said: “The highly participatory sessions allowed for in-depth discussions of real-life scenarios, enabling participants to share experiences and gain valuable insights. Pragmatic solutions to basic education challenges were proffered and strategies to enhance education quality, promote equity and ensure inclusivity in basic education were also explored.”
