Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on Thursday, assured that the state administration will continue to initiate and provide basic infrastructure that will have positive impacts on the socio-economic development of the people and mitigate against rural-urban migration.

The deputy governor gave this assurance while speaking at the commissioning and handing over of Iraye Primary HealthCare Centre, Iraye-Oke, Siwola Road, Odosiwola and Mojoda Market, Mojoda, all in Eredo Local Council Development Area, Epe which were facilitated by a member, House of Representatives, Hon. Tasir Olawale Raji representing Epe Federal Constituency.

Dr. Hamzat further assured that the administration would also put in place appropriate mechanisms and measures geared towards making life more meaningful and comfortable for all Lagosians as, according to him, the state government is devoted to alleviating the various challenges facing the citizenry.

Hamzat, while noting that the projects commissioned would have a multiplier effect on the socio-economic development of the community, save lives and bring governance closer to the people, added that the state government understood the importance of quality healthcare and the provision of basic infrastructure in boosting commercial and economic activities in the state and local communities.

“As the saying goes, Health is Wealth and a healthy nation is said to be a wealthy nation. Given that, the significance of sound healthcare delivery in the socio-economic development of any society becomes very imperative and one can, therefore, appreciate the provision of the newly constructed Primary Healthcare Centre to serve the immediate medical and healthcare needs of the community,” he stated.

Speaking further, Hamzat pointed out that the projects being commissioned were carefully selected and aimed at further enhancing the living standard of citizens of the communities, saying that they were put in place to “ensuring that the people at the grassroots also enjoy the dividends of democracy, which is our plan of all-inclusive governance.”

The deputy governor commended Hon. Raji for the initiative and gesture, urging other parliamentarians to emulate his kind gesture and ensure that they embark on life-touching projects that would improve the quality of lives of their constituents.

He also called on the people of the communities where the projects were located to take ownership of the infrastructure and ensure that they jealously guide them for the good use of all.

Earlier in his speech, Hon. Raji stated that the construction of the 20-bed Primary Healthcare Centre in Iraye was necessary to fill the gap and bring healthcare services closer to the people.

“The Primary Healthcare Centre became very pressing considering the unavailability of any public health institutions within the community which is one of the fastest growing settlements not just in Eredo Local Council Development Area but in Epe Federal Constituency,” the lawmaker said.

Hon. Raji noted that the Shiwola road in Odosiwola, which is a strategic road that connects around 10 communities to the Epe-Ijebu Ode Express Road, was in a total disrepair state, but said the road was presently accessible and in good condition, and fitted with solar street light to boost nightlife and security in that axis.

“The road is now not motorable but fitted with solar street light that makes the road very passable at night to boost nightlife and security in that axis,” Raji said.

Raji said the newly built primary healthcare centre can accommodate 20 in-patients at a time and has a pharmacy, consulting rooms, medical laboratory, and labour room.

The lawmaker, while highlighting the different ongoing projects in Epe Federal Constituency, commended the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his support on the numerous projects being sited within Epe Federal Constituency.

Lagos State Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Cornelius Ojalabi, in his goodwill message, charged the people to take ownership of all the newly commissioned infrastructures, urging them to protect them and ensure they meet the purpose for which they were provided.

The party chieftain commended Hon. Raji for his quality representation at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, adding that his election by the people of Epe Constituency was yielding the dividend for democracy for the people.
