Lagos PDP members meet, resolve to move party forward

Published by

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said on Thursday it has resolved to move the party forward, notwithstanding the crisis that rocked it, leading to its worst defeat in the last general elections in the state.

The opposition PDP came up with this resolution at its member’s General Assembly on the initiative of the party leader in the state, Chief Olabode George, who is also the former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP.

The parley, which took place at the Ikoyi office of Chief George, was held to assure members and loyalists in the state that, despite the outcome of the general elections in the country, the party remained an indivisible entity.

It would be recalled that the PDP suffered its worst defeat in the poll exercise since 1999 due to a crisis, with some of its chieftains finding open support for the opposition Labour Party (LP).

Speaking at the parley, Chief George, who is also the Atona Oodua of Yoruba land, urged members to be steadfast and feel assured that despite what happened during the last general elections, the party would regain its lost glory and would not be allowed to go into extinction.

“I urged all of you who have been faithful to remain steadfast; we would ensure that the party regains its lost glory,” he said.

This was just as the PDP chieftain tasked the national leadership of the party to ensure that it conducts, as a matter of course, “a thorough post-mortem to resolve all issues that affected the party.”

According to him, the party leadership must ensure that all members whose actions negatively affected the party are held accountable, particularly in the areas of accountability and financial recklessness.
