The Lagos State Government has empowered over 85,000 young people across the state in the past year through leadership, entrepreneurship, digital, and vocational training initiatives.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, made this known on Tuesday during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held to commemorate the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office. He stated that the achievements reflect the government’s continued commitment to youth development.
Highlighting the Ministry’s digital empowerment efforts, the Commissioner spotlighted the LAG-UP Project—a tech-driven youth empowerment initiative in partnership with GFA Technologies.
According to Mr Ogunlende, 45,806 young people have enrolled in training programmes covering over 84 in-demand tech and creative skills, with 23,305 participants successfully completing the courses and earning certifications.
In the area of vocational skills development, he noted that 4,042 youths—comprising 3,200 females and 842 males—were trained in various trades such as shoemaking, tailoring, carpentry, tiling, software development, and others. The training was conducted in collaboration with private sector partners.
He further emphasised the Ministry’s ongoing focus on leadership development through the IBILE Youth Academy, which recently trained 500 participants as part of efforts to re-orient and nurture young leaders across the state.

Speaking on youth entrepreneurship, the Commissioner revealed that ten young entrepreneurs received business grants totalling ₦10 million under the Amplifier Business Clinic, following a competitive pitch session held during the 2024 International Youth Day celebration.
In addition, he announced that twelve youth ambassadors had been selected for a study tour to Queen’s University, Canada, aimed at enhancing their leadership capacity, international exposure, and global competitiveness.
“These achievements align with the expanded THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritises social inclusion, youth engagement, and economic empowerment. Our youths are not just the future; they are the present, and we are equipping them to lead Lagos and thrive on the global stage,” he said.
