LAGOS State government said it had commenced the second phase of the Alapere redevelopment project as part of efforts to resolve the gridlock encountered at the Ketu, Alapere and Mile 12 axis of the state.
It appealed to residents of the area to cooperate with the contractor handling the project to deliver on schedule.
The state government, however, gave an assurance that it would compensate those whose buildings or property would be affected.
The project involves the upgrade and dualisation of Kazeem junction, Alapere Estate, up to the roundabout, among others.
The acting Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Anofiu Eleguishi, disclosed this at the weekend at a stakeholders meeting with residents of Agboyi/Ketu area of the state, just as he reiterated government’s commitment to put up infrastructures that would ease traffic in the state.
He said, “Our intention is to give a proper link between communities around the area and to reduce the pressure on the expressway.
“We want to appeal to you to bear with us. It is just for a little time.”
The contractor, Mr Tosin Alade, said the project, covering a stretch of 1.15 kilometres with the delivery period fixed for two months, was divided into three sections; rehabilitation of the second bus stop at Alapere junction, rehabilitation of the Ketu pedestrian bridge and the Alapere road corridor.
Chief Isiaka Oyero, Balogun of Ketu, appealed to the state government to ensure that those affected were compensated.
Also, the Chairman, Community Development Association for the area, Mr Raphael Ajayi, commended the government and urged that it should embarked on other phases already on drawing board in sequence.
