The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported a fire outbreak at the Itamaga Plank Market in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to a statement from Nosa Okunbor, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, LASEMA received distress calls early Wednesday morning and promptly dispatched its Lion Squad from the Agbowa Base.
Upon arrival at the market around 4:20 AM, emergency responders found that one of the shops was engulfed in flames.
The investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge.
“The prompt intervention and coordinated efforts of the LRT and LASG Fire & Rescue Service ensured the fire was contained and quickly subdued,” the statement noted.
The fire resulted in the destruction of the shop and partial loss of goods and properties. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.
As of the latest update, the fire has been completely extinguished, and emergency responders have secured the area.
The agency has also provided guidance to market occupants on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
