A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of two suspected drug traffickers and approved the temporary forfeiture of vehicles and a house believed to be linked to drug crimes.
Justice Musa Kakaki gave the ruling after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) filed a motion ex parte outlining recent seizures and arrests.
The suspects, Muazee Ademola Ogunbiyi and Shola Adegoke, were arrested on September 3, 2025, after 17.90 kilograms of cocaine was found hidden in textile materials at the Skyway Handling Company (SAHCO) export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on August 26.
NDLEA’s lawyer, Abu Ibrahim, told the court that a remand order was needed to enable a thorough investigation. Justice Kakaki granted the request, ordering the suspects’ remand for 14 days.
The court also approved the interim forfeiture of two vehicles linked to the case: a black Range Rover SUV (RBC 459 EJ) in which 9.60 kilograms of cannabis sativa was found, and a black Toyota Venza (FST 771 JQ), where one of the suspects was arrested.
In a separate ruling, Justice Kakaki ordered the interim forfeiture of a property at 14, Okechukwu Madueke Street, Star-Times Estate, Okota, Lagos. The NDLEA argued that the property was bought with proceeds of crime, tied to the trafficking of 49.70 kilograms of heroin.
Ibrahim told the court that the case started with the arrest of a freight agent at Matt Pee Logistics Company, who was caught with heroin hidden inside cutting machines. Investigations later pointed to one Chidibest Ibewuike as a key player in the drug ring. He has been on the run since February 10, 2024.
Justice Kakaki ruled that the NDLEA’s application had merit and ordered the temporary forfeiture of the property to the Federal Government. He added that anyone with a valid claim to the house should appear in court to challenge the order.
The case was adjourned to November 17, 2025, for a progress report.
