Kwara SUBEB, LG workers to get full January salaries

ALL categories of workers at the local government areas of Kwara state will receive full salaries for the month of January, just as 16 Local Government Areas in the state have shared a sum of N581.7 million from the State Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) for the first month of the year.

Speaking with journalists after the JAAC meeting in Ilorin on Wednesday, the state chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr Joshua Omokanye, said that the local government chairmen unanimously agreed at the meeting to step down their January running cost to enable the workers to receive full salaries.

He said that the committee also agreed that extraordinary inflow of Exchange Difference Gain of N3,614,201.46 should be shared.

Omokanye also restated that 10 per cent Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from the state government of N114,425,154.06 and N 527,650,974.41 from Value Added Tax (VAT) was also shared.

According to him, the 16 LGs would share N581,726.776.53 for January 2019, as the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) teachers got N1,185,994,799.17 billion from this month (January) allocation.

Omokanye explained that the committee has agreed that all categories of LGs and SUBEB workers would receive full salaries this month.

He said that LG &LGEA pensioners would receive full pensions this month as the amount stood at N498,224,922.06 revealing that 10 per cent Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)from state government stood at N114,425,154.06 and Value Added Tax (VAT) N527,650,974.41 were also shared.

He explained that the sum of N279,646,975.46 was deducted at source as repayment for the councils’ salary-related borrowings from banks.

ALGON Chairman who is also Chairman, Oyun Local Government Area explained that statutory allocation for the month of January stood at N2,004,121,164.77 as against N2,206,023,056.70 in the previous month.

The Chairman explained that the fund was appropriated in line with law guiding the local government account which included; Teachers salary N1,185,994,799.17; LG and LGEA pension N498,224,922.06 among others.

He explained that the distribution of the allocations among the Local Government Councils in the state was done in accordance with section 4(2) of the state Joint Local Government Account Law (cap80) as amended by Law 15 of 2001.

“The fund was appropriated in line with law guiding the local government account. JAAC was an assembly of 16 Local Government chairmen without the inference of state government,” he stated.
