Kwara police parades 18 suspected criminals

Kwara State Police Command has paraded 18 suspected criminals including kidnapper, murderer and land grabbers.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the state commissioner of police, Kayode Egbetokun, said that the suspected kidnapper, Adamu Alhaji Bawa, and the suspected murderer, Jamiu Sulaiman, relocated from Katsina and Lagos States, respectively, after committing the crimes.

The police boss said that Jamiu, connived with others to murder his friend, out of envy, collected his tipper lorry and relocated to Ilorin from Lagos State.

Egbetokun added that the suspected kidnapper, Adamu Alhaji Bawa, who was an indigene of Katsina State, ran to Tsaragi town, Kwara State for cover after he committed the crime.

He said 16 suspected land grabbers were arrested at Egbejila community in the Ilorin West local government area of the state for allegedly disturbing public peace, after a disagreement on ownership of land.

The police commissioner, who said that no life was lost, added that the suspects, while on a rampage, macheted a policeman who was at the area to discharge his lawful duty.

However, the suspects said a group of people, led by a resident of Osere community, attacked them in a bid to take over their land.

The police commissioner said that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigations were completed.

When interviewed, the suspected kidnapper, Adamu Alhaji Bawa, an indigene of Katsina State, denied the allegation of kidnapping levelled against him, saying he was arrested in Tsaragi area of the state after attending a village market to purchase food items for his family.

He said he had since been living in the state, urging the police authority to check facts of his case to ensure justice is done and release him to take care of his ailing mother.
