The Kwara state government has reiterated its commitment to education and empowerment of its citizens, saying that it is positioned to support the overall development of the girl-child in both conventional schools and vocational centres.
Speaking during the sensitisation programme of the “Second Chance Education” sub-component of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in Share, Ifelodun local government area of the state, the project coordinator of AGILE in the state, Adeshina Salami, said that the AGILE project is determined to ensure that no girl or young woman is left behind.
Salami, who was represented by the Second Chance Education Officer of the Project, Mrs Omolola Ayanshola, appreciated the state governor for his impact in the education sector.
He commended the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe and the management of the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, together with the Agency for Mass Education (AME), for their support in ensuring that girls who are out of school are enrolled under the AGILE project.
On her part, the consultant handling the Second Chance Education sub-component, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOWHOC), Dr. Christy Abayomi-Oluwole, stressed that registration for second chance education is free in the state-owned vocational, literacy and numeracy centres.
She encouraged all eligible girls and young women to enrol in the nearest centre.
The Olupako of Share, HRH Oba Olawale Haruna Ilufemiloye, who was represented by the Balogun, Oladipo welcomed the team to Ifelodun LGA and gave his support to the project, lauding the Governor’s initiative as a “fantastic one”.
He also noted the need for proper monitoring to ensure that the objectives are met.
At Moro LGA, the Ohoro of Shao, Oba (Dr.) Job Atolagbe acknowledged the importance of entrepreneurial skills and assured the team of maximum support, while also encouraging girls and young women to embrace the second-chance education component of the project.
In Offa, Offa LGA, the Oloffa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, who was represented by the Baale Igbawere, Alh. Chief Kola Ahmed also commended the Governor for the initiative and urged eligible girls to enrol.
The Onijagbo of Ijagbo, HRH Oba Sharafadeen Buari and the Onira of Ira land, Alh. Abdulwahab Oyetoro also pledged to support the project and ensure that the enrollment rates are significant in their towns.
The team also took the sensitisation to other parts of the state, and it is taking place across the three senatorial districts of the state.
