Kwara APC stakeholders confirm endorsement of governorship aspirant

A group of elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kwara state, under the aegis of the Concerned APC Stakeholders, has confirmed endorsement of the party’s governorship candidate for the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the group, Senator Mohammed Ahmed, urged members of the party in the state to commit themselves to integration in the party rather than separation.

Senator Ahmed, who described the present moment in the party as a critical period, urged party faithful to commit themselves to a purposeful and united APC in Kwara state and neglect all forms of distraction.

The group, which lamented attitude of one of the 13 governorship aspirants in the last APC primaries, said that a statement credited to the aspirant, Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, was not in the spirit of the Abuja accord which the party leaders had with the leader of the party in the state and the minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Senator Ahmed said that the aspirant was in Abuja where President Muhammadu Buhari endorsed Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as the Kwara state APC governorship candidate, adding that alleged contradictory statement of the aspirant did not represent resolutions which other governorship aspirants had with the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

It is recalled that one of the governorship aspirants, Professor Abdulraheem, had recently said that the president did not endorse any of the governorship aspirants during the Abuja meeting, adding that he would reclaim his mandate in due course.

The Concerned APC Stakeholders said that the statement of the governorship aspirant had also embarrassed the meeting which the Kwara APC delegation had with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The group, which said that it only aimed at explaining the issue at hand and not intended to be confrontational, said that the party had submitted the name of Alhaji Abdulrazaq to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 poll.
