Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State have cautioned politicians in the area from acts capable of causing division or misleading members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC group, an amalgam of concerned progressives and stakeholders in the local government area, under the aegis of the Ifelodun Progressives Network (IPN), said that some members of the party had turned endorsement of politicians into a business transaction.
In a statement by the acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the IPN, Engineer Olaniyi Alabi, the people said that the Ifelodun local government area is not for sale to any political aspirant.
In its reaction to a communiqué issued at a consultative engagement recently organised by associates and political aides of Senator Lola Ashiru, the group said that, “While every party member reserves the right to convene meetings and express opinions, it is important to separate genuine stakeholder consensus from a spectacle designed to manufacture legitimacy where none exists”.
“First, it must be clearly stated that Ifelodun is not for sale, nor is it a political merchandise to be hawked from one aspirant to another depending on convenience.
“The attempt to project the views of a gathering as the collective position of APC stakeholders in Ifelodun is misleading, disingenuous, and unacceptable.
“How does a sincere dialogue on development, 2027 House of Assembly declaration, banditry, displacement, political responsiveness, and communal trauma suddenly culminate in a political coronation?
“For us in Ifelodun Local Government, we are unequivocal about our quest for fairness, justice, and equity at all front,s, and 2027 will not be an exception. The quest for fairness, justice, and equity is the reason why there is a loud and firm affirmative action for the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency to be zoned to Ifelodun LGA, and the same for the zoning of the senatorial seat to the Igbomina bloc.
The group also urged party leaders at the state and national levels to discountenance the endorsements and focus on genuine grassroots engagement, internal democracy, and fairness.
“The future of Kwara State, Kwara South, and Ifelodun in particular cannot be built on political theatrics and emotional blackmail but by fairness, justice, and equity.
